The Slapdash Party

We had made wonderful plans to go to Brooklyn for Chandler's second birthday, but then - surprise! - a snow storm was predicted.  (Our third Monday snow storm?  Our fourth?)  Mark said he could handle a last minute party if I promised it could be completely store-bought.  No homemade cakes, pizzas, etc.  I promised and started sending out emails.

Most of the usual suspects were available, though the parking ban didn't help matters.  And we made do with readily available entertainment, like unearthing plastic animals from gelatin.

Here's the birthday girl, all dolled up.

She didn't quite understand what to do with candles, but there were plenty of people around to help her out.

For presents, we re-offered gifts she had ignored at Christmas.  No point in going out to buy more boxes for her to ignore.  This time around, everything got opened, with a little help from her friends.  The big gift was a Tonka truck.

She maybe wasn't as starry-eyed over the truck as we'd hoped, but she did like it and the downstairs neighbors haven't complained yet, thank goodness.

Happy Birthday to you, kiddo, and many, many more.
