Five Months of Baby Chandler

Four Month Fun Facts

  • Mobility: Same as last month, essentially.  She can almost get from her back to her front, but not quite.  She sure is wiggly though.  She easily gets out of her wrap at night.
  • Sleeping: She's given it up...Ok, that's an exaggeration, but she's gone from getting up once or twice a night to waking up every hour and a half.  Introducing solids has not helped.  I am not a happy camper.  Chandler, on the other hand, seems perfectly happy.  Big sigh.

Crawling!

No, not really.

I was taking a shower the other day (shocking, I know).  Mark stuck his head in the bathroom and said, "She's trying to crawl!"

"Take pictures!" I said, all adither, and went on to finish my shower in a leisurely fashion.  I don't get to shower in a leisurely fashion very often.

Glad I didn't hurry.  Here are the pictures I found on the camera:

Clearly, she's working on it.  We might be there sooner rather than later.  But a good leisurely shower is a good leisurely shower.

In Walden Pond

Sir, as my father is affectionately known, joined my mom in Massachusetts before heading to Maine.  It was too hot to do much walking, one of his favorite activities, so we went to Concord to go swimming in Walden Pond, instead.

Sir and Frances, bonding.

This was Chandler's first swim!  I'm so pleased to say that her first swim was in Walden Pond.  Most kids in Concord can probably say the same, but I never thought I'd be able to say it about kids of my own.

Frances loved the water.  (She actually asked to go back to Walden Pond as I was typing this up.)

Fun, fun, fun in the sun, sun, sun.

Chandler loved it too, I'm sure.

A little July 4th

Our usual strategy for July 4th is to go downtown and wander around until we see something patriotic.  There are schedules available that would make this process more efficient, but I'm a lazy patriot.  This year the strategy failed just a tad.  We went downtown, but didn't come across a parade or a historical reenactment. We did have some lovely hot dogs in the public gardens and Frances communed with the ducks.

But it was distressingly hot.

We quickly retreated to a mall to eat ice cream indoors.  Then we were all happy campers again.

Second First Day of Summer Camp

Frances started her second summer of Copper Beech Montessori Summer Camp the other day.  The summer camp is similar to the regular school year, but with less emphasis on structure and more on fun, which is just fine with me.  Here's the big three and a half year old, ready to head to camp.

Polka dots match with polka dots, of course.

First Feed

Chandler's weight percentile had dropped slightly at her four month appointment, her pediatrician believes in starting solids between four and six months and she is waking up at night a lot, so I started her on solids, despite the feeling that it was a little early.

I decided to skip bland rice cereal and go right for something that tastes good, avocados.  Added benefit: she gets to look like that kid from The Exorcist.

She was not sure what we were up to at the beginning.  But after spitting out several mouthfuls, she got the hang of it.  Frances even gave feeding her a try.

Oh, the indignities of being a second kid.
